5 July 2019 marked Action Mesothelioma Day, a day aimed at raising awareness of people suffering with mesothelioma, an aggressive form of cancer linked with asbestos exposure.
According to the Health and Safety Executive the UK has the world’s highest incidence of mesothelioma, with 2,523 diagnosed in 2017 alone. From this there were 2,084 male deaths, a slight reduction compared with recent years, and 439 female deaths, a slight increase.
The latest projections suggest that there will continue to be around 2,500 deaths per year for the rest of this current decade before annual numbers begin to decline.
This year solicitors from the asbestos team at Hugh James attended numerous events organised by dedicated Asbestos Support Groups all over the UK to mark this special day.
Presentations were made by several Mesothelioma UK Specialist Nurses together with talks from respiratory physicians and clinical oncologists highlighting the challenges raised by treating those suffering from Mesothelioma together with the evolving options for treatment.
As part of this special day symbolic butterfly and dove releases were held to symbolise reflection and hope. Candles were also lit to remember those affected by this cruel disease.
These special events held all over the UK emphasised the continued need to raise awareness of the dangers of asbestos exposure while also accentuating much needed hope for those suffering from the disease.
Hugh James acts on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis and also ensure that mesothelioma suffers keep 100% of their compensation.
